Dartmouth mother of two felt “bullied” into signing fixed-term lease in Ocean Breeze

“We NEED A HOME 😔 😟 😢 😠 😡 👿 😤

I’ve been so quite on here for a while let me give you a little glimpse into life right now.
It was hard to wrestle up a side smile for this, I’ve been quite literally living hell for the last month with no end in sight.

The long term tenants of Ocean Breeze are happy as they are being offered compensation for the demolition and construction while my family and many others are being thrown into the streets on Sept 30th with no where to go and no offers of help.

They’re has been LIE after LIE told anyone who signed a fixed term lease in OB (its funny how I don’t know the other community members personally but everyone is telling the same story) not to worry about the renewal of the lease, the construction being many many many years away and that residents of OB will get first bid on the new units being built what they NEVER told us is this doesn’t include anyone of use who signed a fixed term lease! So many lies now they’re are so many families at risk of homelessness including mine.

We have no where to go besides getting rid of what I’ve worked so hard to have and rooming my family of 3 in one bedroom of my mother’s 2 bedroom condo this cant be real life.

***Edit***

The one point I don’t think is being driven home ENOUGH is that once I vacate my home on Sept 30th my current unit will sit empty for SIX MONTHS until they start moving people around at the end of May… 6 whole months.

In the middle of a housing crisis how is this even legal?!?!”

Via: SaltWire / Mathieu Hebert — When Destiny Beals moved into her apartment in Ocean Breeze, she expected to be able to stay and live with her family for a few years.

According to Beals, Universal Property Management, a realty group managing leasing agreements in Ocean Breeze, told her and other residents not to worry about the details of their fixed-term leases, and that construction would not impact them for years to come.

“It felt like I was being bullied and pressured,” Beals said in an interview. “We are literally just being thrown to the wolves right now. We have no recourse.”
