A new community-created directory is helping connect African Nova Scotian and Black communities with culturally responsive mental health services throughout the province.
Developed by Natalie Hodgson and Danita Williams, the resource highlights Black therapists as well as Black-focused mental health organizations and support services operating across Nova Scotia.
The directory recently began circulating on social media through Sturrup Counselling and Consulting and has been widely shared among community members seeking accessible mental health resources.
According to the creators, the directory was developed in response to feedback received during a community wellness series. The goal was to make information about Black mental health professionals and organizations more visible and easier to access.
While the creators note that the directory is not exhaustive, it provides an important starting point for individuals, families, and service providers looking for culturally relevant supports throughout the province.
