Blacklantic launched during Black History Month in February 2022 as a podcast and digital media platform created by Clinton Davis and Hillary LeBlanc, both former co-hosts of Black in the Maritimes.
Rooted particularly in their experiences in New Brunswick, the project sought to address a lack of Black representation in Atlantic Canadian media and provide space for Black and other underrepresented voices from the region. Davis and LeBlanc emphasized that there is no single “Black experience,” using the platform to discuss current events, culture, identity, racism and everyday life while highlighting differing perspectives within Black communities.
Alongside the podcast, Blacklantic published written commentary, including work by LeBlanc and contributor Savannah Thomas, and used its social media channels to extend those conversations.
The project has since ended and its original website is no longer active, but surviving podcast episodes and other archived material provide a record of the Black Atlantic conversations the platform created during its run.
