Black Video Historian is an extensive video collection maintained by Merlin Cain, preserving and sharing Black history through hundreds of uploads spanning archival footage and contemporary recordings.

The channel has a particularly strong connection to North Preston and contains a remarkable collection of community video: church services, celebrations, gatherings, interviews, performances and other recordings documenting people and moments that might otherwise have little or no presence online. Some newer footage also retains the distinctive visual character of earlier community videography.

The collection extends beyond Nova Scotia as well, documenting Black people, culture and events elsewhere. Taken together, the channel functions as both a personal video collection and a substantial grassroots audiovisual archive of Black community life.
