Feature Friday is a podcast from the African Nova Scotian Employment Lab, hosted by Aaliyah Arab-Smith and Trevor Silver. The podcast grew out of the Lab’s long-running Feature Friday initiative, which provides a platform for African Nova Scotian community members and allies to share their experiences, expertise, passions and accomplishments.
Through wide-ranging conversations, the series highlights people doing work in and for African Nova Scotian communities while exploring their personal stories, what motivates them and the paths that have shaped their work. The podcast places particular emphasis on efforts to help close the employment gap affecting Black and African Nova Scotian people between the ages of 18 and 35.
The series forms part of the African Nova Scotian Employment Lab’s broader work connecting African Nova Scotian job seekers, employers and community with employment opportunities and resources. Episodes are distributed through podcast platforms and YouTube.
