BlackNovaScotia.ca originated as a Facebook page on May 2, 2010, originally titled The Black Nova Scotian News Network. Its aim was to help keep people up to date with happenings in the news that pertain to people of African descent, particularly those from, or with ties to, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Since then the page has gone on to include information about the Black history of Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada; information on grassroots initiatives pertaining to Black Atlantic Canadians including things like petitions, social justice campaigns, and crowdfunding initiatives; and information and invitations to upcoming events in the Black community.
